A cashier's check, also known as a bank check or officer's check, is a check guaranteed by a bank, drawn on the bank's own funds and signed by a bank officer. It is considered more secure than a personal check. A certified check, on the other hand, is a personal check that has been guaranteed by the bank on which it is drawn, certifying that the funds are available. Both cashier's checks and certified checks are used for large payments where security is paramount.
